Testimony

You are here: Testimony

When one Christian asks another Christian, What do you believe? the usual point of the question is to find out what we each believe that is the same and what we each believe that is different. In that light, this page will probably answer that question. If not, there is a link at the bottom to more information.

I believe everything the Bible teaches about every Christian doctrine.

I believe that the Holy Scriptures teach that salvation cannot be earned. No one is good enough to not need the free gift of salvation. Everyone who has faith in Jesus Christ is born again. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by a word from God. If we hear and believe, we change our mind (repent) and receive the salvation that was provided through Jesus Christ. From that time, we are born again, born of the Spirit, seated with Christ in Heavenly Places. Our spirits are joined to His Spirit. Something has happened to our hearts and minds as well, but there remains a completion of the work, and that completion must be done by the Holy Spirit.

I believe that the Holy Scriptures teach the following: Salvation from humanity's sin and depravity requires forgiveness from God. This forgiveness results in the New Birth. Forgiveness and being born again are, and can only be, attained through faith in Jesus Christ, God's Son, and in His efficacious death on the cross of Calvary and His resurrection from the dead. Without being born again, no one can see, or enter the Kingdom of God.

I believe that the Bible warns against rationalized speculation or spiritualized speculation. The world tends to depend on reasoning based on unfounded assumptions and presuppositions and leveraged logic, all of which try either to expand knowledge beyond the revelation in the Word or try to rule out certain aspects of the revelation in the Word. The believer must avoid speculations of the natural self, no matter how carefully rationalized. The natural self cannot see the Kingdom of God. The natural self cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God.

I believe that the Holy Scriptures teach:

  • The 5 apostolic ministries (Ephesians 4:11)
  •
  • The nine gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8-10)
  •
  • Local congregations overseen by elders and deacons (Titus 1:5)
  •
  • Every member having and being a ministry in the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:11)
  •
  • Being led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14)
  •
  • The gathering together of the Body of Christ (Genesis 49:10, John 17:21)
