What did Jesus do when He died on the cross and rose again. We must not forget that this was the final act of obedience to the Father after living a life during which He never once thought any thought that was not in submission to the Father, said any word that was not given to Him by the Father, or did any act that the Father did not do through Him. In fact, He reversed the destruction that Adam and Eve did by disobeying the Father. And, He also paid the price for the sins of every person who has ever lived and ever will live. Most importantly, He opened the Way (which He is) for every person to walk away from their sin regardless of how filthy their past has been or what terrible deeds they may have done. Every person can walk the path that goes from darkness to astounding light from glory to glory, from faith to faith, and from light to light until they reach that totally complete Day. The cross that Jesus bore is His crowning obedience to the Father after a series of obediences, never once doing His own will. On it, He paid the terrible price for your sin and my sin. And now, at every moment, I have opportunity to listen to His voice rather than following my own flesh, sitting in the counsel of the ungodly, or being influenced by doctrines of demons. And, you have the same. When I hear His voice, His free gift of faith comes along with a vision of hope that shows me who I really am in Christ Jesus and how I fit into Christ the Body. Then, faith gives access into His grace. And it is His grace that thinks His thoughts of love through me, says His words of love through me, and does His acts of love through me. The same is available to every Christ follower. This is what changes/transfigures you and me because the flesh nature dies a little on that same cross each time that you or I yield in submission to the Holy Spirit. And at the same time, Christ becomes more fully formed in you and me.
